Modern dentures are indistinguishable from healthy, natural teeth … for smiles that last a lifetime

Mint Dental partners with many generations of families from Meridian, Kuna, and Boise, Idaho. These families trust their smiles’ safety, health, and appearance to Dr. Kevin Pulsipher. Dr. Pulsipher and our skilled team support the health of individuals at every age and every life stage—partnerships built on regular visits to our office help to preserve teeth for a lifetime. And should tooth loss occur, we recommend prompt replacement with treatments that mimic the appearance, feel, and function of natural and healthy teeth.

Dentures options for every smile

Dentures are traditionally made from materials such as porcelain, acrylic, and stainless steel to replicate the appearance and structure of teeth and gum tissue. These materials are perfectly color-matched to blend in with natural gums and the overall appearance of the smile and face. “Partial” dentures may be connected to remaining healthy teeth to replace a few or several teeth. They are attached to the teeth with specialized clasps or precision attachments.

Complete upper dentures are primarily held in place with natural suction, which makes it critical for the denture to fit your mouth perfectly. Problems arise when dentures do not fit well. Ill-fitting dentures slide around, are uncomfortable, and cause sores. They interfere with proper speech and eating favorite foods. Well-fitting lower dentures may require a little “assistance” when holding the denture in place with products such as denture adhesives. However, the force of the tongue and the shape of the lower jaw can make it challenging for the denture to stay in place.

Patients concerned about maintaining the fit and stability of their dentures may be excellent candidates for dentures supported by dental implants. Buried in the jaw, implants are designed to function like tooth roots. They “root” a single tooth, a few or several teeth in place. As few as four implants may also be positioned in the jaw to hold a complete lower or upper denture in position.

Maintaining your new teeth

There are many factors to explore when considering the best option for your smile. Notably, conventional dentures require periodic adjustments at our office to maintain a proper fit. Implant-supported overdentures essentially preserve the bone in the jaw. So, they may be best for those concerned about bone loss and the need for ongoing adjustments as the jawbone shrinks. We may even be able to “retrofit” your existing denture with implants
