Tooth damage is more common than people think. Teeth are susceptible to damage from accidental injuries, decay, or gum disease. If the damage can be repaired, Dr. Kevin Pulsipher will do so to save your tooth from extraction. We repair and restore damaged teeth with dental crown treatment at Mint Dental, serving residents in Meridian, Idaho. A porcelain dental crown is placed over your compromised tooth to support its structure. Crowning a damaged tooth restores its original strength and aesthetics.Â
Dental crowns are used mainly as a restorative treatment. A tooth compromised by age, decay, or dental trauma can be too fragile or painful to use. Dr. Pulsipher fortifies your tooth’s structure by covering it with a crown to restore its function. He may also recommend cosmetic teeth caps for misshapen, irregularly sized, or discolored teeth to improve your smile’s aesthetics.
A dental crown is a cap that covers your tooth entirely, from the top to the gumline. Dr. Pulsipher will cement the crown in place, making it a permanent part of your tooth’s structure. Porcelain crowns are strong and enduring and can give you up to 15 years or longer of quality use. You’ll be able to bite and chew like normal without worrying about your tooth cracking or crumbling. A dental crown will:
If Dr. Pulsipher can save your tooth with a crown, we will do so! Repairing a compromised tooth is a better option than having it removed. Restoring natural teeth keeps your smile intact and preserves your oral health.
Our dental crowns are fabricated in an offsite lab and custom-designed for you. Dr. Pulsipher will start by cleaning your tooth and treating any decay if needed. Then, we’ll reshape your tooth to make room for your porcelain cap. Next, we’ll make impressions of your tooth and jaw for a precise fit. These impressions will be sent to an offsite lab where crowns are manufactured. When your crown is ready, we’ll place it over your tooth and cement it in place permanently. In the interim period, we put a temporary crown on your tooth to avoid painful chewing.
Porcelain crowns resemble natural teeth and will restore your smile’s aesthetics beautifully. Good oral care and routine dental cleanings will keep your crown in great shape for years. To extend the lifespan of your crown, we recommend avoiding chewing hard foods as they can crack or dislodge your crown. Limit your intake of stain-causing foods and drinks to retain your smile’s aesthetic beauty.
